So, how was your day?

Right on schedule for the second straight week! I’m on a roll. And my day has been pretty good! It’s cold again, but the sun is out, and my lunch was scrumptious. I also got a lot done at work, and plan to get even more done once I get home, unless I get too distracted by the internet, which is definitely what will happen. Calling that now.

Did everyone see that a bunch of Harry Potter fans created a free, online Hogwarts, with actual classes and assignments? They clearly put a ton of work into it, and loads of people have already signed up and will have fun, I’m sure, but there is no way in hell I’m ever doing homework again. Not even fake magic homework. Never. Again. Sorry, fellow Ravenclaws; you’ll have to carry on without me.

Ha, when I read about doing homework, I had the opposite reaction. “Oooh, homework!” I’m such a Hufflepuff. (AKA, the best house.)

This week has been pretty sucky, so sucky in fact that I got VERY close to watching TV to distract me from my sorrows. But I didn’t! So I can head into this Easter weekend with a sinless soul! Today has been better, because now I’m just coasting on a cloud of pre-vacation obliviousness.

I slept in HARD today (spring break, whoooo!) and then while doing laundry for my upcoming long weekend trip (Napa Valley, bitcheeeees!), I found $15 in a dress pocket! More days like this, universe!

I finally ordered a frame for a priceless family artifact. It’s on the back of a kids menu from a Disney restaurant from about 15 years ago. The kids were playing tic tak toe against each other, and Thomas decided to write out his “rules”. “Rules, you lose no matter what. I am the best I win yay. You stink, I get the middle. Ha ha. I win 1st place ha ha ha. Yay Thomas.”
I picture it hanging over his (some day) high powered desk at his (some day) high powered job.

    • flanny says:

If I were one of his siblings I would have pulled a switcharoo and given him the middle seat in the car instead. “What, you said you get the middle.”

    • catweazle says:

That sounds exactly like something my brother would have done as a kid, and his name is also Thomas. Coincidence?

      • Kate says:

They pretend to be quiet and thoughtful, but deep down they’re evil villains!

        • catweazle says:

For real! My brother once devised a very Machiavellian system for a game we made up where the winner was determined “democratically” meaning we all voted but you couldn’t vote for yourself, and he knew that my little sister and I would never vote for each other because we were mortal enemies so he always won by default.

    • It’s funny how you cherish the little, innocuous things. We have a framed note from mr truck’s late grandmother that is just a short note written on a scrap but he cherishes it so much.
There’s just something about handwritten notes that triggers the memory.

  4. I tried to write my first H&M (Homeless Monsters) post, but my dang job kept interfering. Alas! Until tomorrow!

  5. catweazle says:

I was extra irritable on the way to work this morning and got angry at about 75% of the people I encountered, but since then the day has improved. I just found out I don’t have to work on Friday which makes me feel better about having to spend time with my family this weekend (not that I don’t like my family, but it can be exhausting).

Also this week I finally finally finally finished writing the recap of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen that I started in January so I can finally get something new from Netflix (yes I still have a plan with actual discs like a grandma). You can read it here if you are so inclined:

    • catweazle says:

I don’t want to oversell it but it contains a shirtless Ewan McGregor pic.

    • summerestherson says:

I love your recaps so much and this was really great as usual!!! Plus, thanks to you, I never would’ve know Ichabod was in this movie!

      • catweazle says:

I will freely admit that Ichabod was the main reason I rented it in the first place. Also my sister told me it was good which I may never forgive her for.

        • summerestherson says:

Haha, oh no! Have you ever seen the mini-series Lost in Austen? Ichabod’s in that too! As Mr. Bingley!

        • Lost In Austin was awful, but he was SO GREAT as Existential Crisis Bingley.

        • summerestherson says:

Yes! Lost in Austen was pretty terrible, but I admit to laughing VERY VERY HARD and then rewinding it and watching again when Darcy came popping up out of that water.

Ichabod was perfect as poor, dumb, goofy Charles Bingley! He didn’t know what lesbians were!!!

        • I did love that moment! I loved a lot of individual scenes, which is why I suffered through the whole thing. My favorite was when she (I forget the main character’s name) got drunk and made out with Bingley and blew his poor little mind.

        • summerestherson says:

Yes there was so much about it that was *almost* there. But then there were so many WTF WHY moments and the whole thing just did not hang together well at all. Like, Alex Kingston and Hugh Bonneville as Mrs. and Mr. Bennett is AMAZING casting, and yet the way those parts were written (especially Mrs. Bennett) YIKES.

        • catweazle says:

I have! I actually have it on DVD because I’m nuts. It’s so incredibly stupid but I find it very enjoyable.

        • artdorkgirl says:

Next you guys are going to tell me ‘Hex’ wasn’t any good either! Jk, I know it’s trash, but Fassbender…oh my! Also, I liked Lost in Austin for the silliness it was.

    • …Wow. How did that movie get made? And why hasn’t it been featured on How Did This Get Made?

  6. ITS MY SISTERS 18 BDAY and i CRIED. Shes so old now, she used to be a little cutie babby. Also things with work guy are moving foward at a slow rate (he’s slow to the funny business) (also has some jesus parafanalia in his house) , but he seems nice and complements me a lot. I thought it was friday today but NOPE ONLY WEDS!!!!!! But taxes for the ice cream and brewery were filed last night at 9pm PST (midnight my time, but its DONE!!!!). ok i think thats all for now XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

My day was great! I heard back from my mortgage guy and I’m pre-approved for way more than I thought I would be AND he has said that with firm purchase and sale agreements I can have a bridge loan so that I can do the downpayment and closing expenses on the new house before the old one closes so I’m not rushing to move or seeping in the moving van for a couple of days or whatever! My open house is on Sunday and I’m sort of on track, in that it’s taking a lot longer to sand my floors than I thought but the varnish I got to refinish them is super quick drying and can have a second coat in 2 hours! I’m going to sand tonight and tomorrow, varnish and do some minor patching and painting Friday, and then spend all of Saturday deep cleaning and “staging” and fingers crossed maybe I will be in my new house in like 2-3 months! I also did a job search today at work for funsies and I found like 15 different actual dream jobs in the city I am moving to that pay twice what I make now and that I am super qualified for and I am so excited!!

It snowed today. So basically I am in a sad depression about the weather, although that kitten hug video did help. I am still (mostly) sticking with my recent fitness regimen, and I have boxing class tonight which is awesome because I have some work/life angst that I am ready to punch out. And lastly the guy I have been flirt-texting with, I am still flirt-texting with. It is still hard to read tone sometimes but I am totally enjoying all the attention and I like more about him the more I find out which is a happy thing. Overall…things are just moving along per usual.

I accepted a job offer several weeks ago, and have been really busy since I gave my notice making sure that all of my responsibilities get assigned to someone else before I leave. I had a meeting this morning that was the last real thing I needed to do. I’m working from home the next two days, then I leave for Europe for two weeks (France, Belgium, Netherlands), then I come home and start a new job that I’m actually excited for. So my day was kind of busy and shitty, but it’s over now and everything is gonna be awesome.

  10. artdorkgirl says:

So my week has been really sucky as I got my ass handed to me (in the nicest way possible) about that really crappy paper I wrote. So now I have to write a completely different paper, in addition to the research project I’ve been blowing off and my other paper that’s due in 2 weeks. So I’ve been pretty down since then. I mean, I got into this whole deal because I love talking about art and writing about art and looking at art and now I just don’t even want to think about it. I know that I’ll just put my head down and get my work cranked out, but my heart’s just not in it right now. Plus, I saw a museum job nearby that I would be perfect for if I wasn’t in school. UGH.

  11. My day has been pretty good. Mr Truck comes home tonight after being gone the past two nights (and all last week!!!)(he was home this weekend) and so I’m very very excited to see him. We’ve been having adorable emoji chats and I sent him a snapchat video of our dog being adorable. I’m having dinner with a new friend tonight and I’m very happy to see this friendship working.
Also remember how last week I was complaining that my boss’ boss dismissed this thing? Well this week my boss came back and was very appreciative about a bunch of stuff, but for that thing he responded in just about the perfect way – just really thankful and impressed and it was kind of perfect timing.
Also I made plans to go on a short little trip in two weeks where I’ll get to see a friend I haven’t seen in a while and visit a place I haven’t been to in a couple years but that I love very much.

    • summerestherson says:

Your life sounds really lovely and I’m pretty sure that’s not the first time I’ve written that! You and Mr. Truck seem like an awesome couple! #sinceritygum

      • Thanks!!! I’m really really crazy lucky…it really is lovely and I’m very very thankful every single day. Also sort of waiting for the other shoe to drop…. But yes we are two weirdo nerds who somehow found each other.

  12. summerestherson says:

I GOT A NEW CAR TODAY WOOOOOO!!!!! It all happened really fast because my old car basically completely crapped out on me, so it was very stressful for about 6 days but now new car is in my possession and my dad helped me pick it out and I think I got a pretty good deal, so HUZZAH. The only downside of course is debt/car payments. (Old car was completely paid off.)

  13. marlasinger says:

I found out that this woman who I met at this social work-like place of business (aka she was a good person trying to help the greater good) died of brain cancer. When I first met her she had this cough and 3 months later she still had it. I guess when she finally went in she had tumors everywhere. She was gone in 6 months – she was 52. I’m telling you this because I’m vowing to not sweat the small shit anymore. For real. I mean, how many more examples do I need? And I don’t want to forget anymore. Like in a week, when the grocery store I go to is crowded and I get annoyed and forget I posted this…no. I no longer get to be annoyed with stuff like that. Major attitude shift: the time is now.

  14. Jeyna Grace says:

Haha! I’m tempted to join but I surely do not want to do homework either.
