Great Job, Civic Minded Trash Picker Upper

I just thought I would share the news that the Horsham District Council, in West Sussex, England, has named a garbage truck after an area resident, in appreciation for routinely picking up litter he finds on his long walks.

The award was presented by Mrs. Susan Pyper, who has the entirely normal and expected title of “Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex”.

The guy’s name? Oh right. Some guy named David Sedaris. Or should I say “Pig-Pen” Sedaris.

  1. What delights me most about this is knowing how much it must have delighted him.

I just want David to adopt/take me on as a mentee. Writing or area cleaning, I’m not picky!

  3. Wallflower says:

I read a story he wrote about how he became obsessed with his fit bit which led to these long walks which led to him picking up lots of trash. Love it.

    • He actually has pretty extreme OCD, so I can see this happening. He wrote about it once and it was a little heartbreaking.

That’s one of my favorite essays of his. The one about like licking his neighbor’s mailbox and stuff like that?

Every town needs somebody this civic minded!

  5. Casey says:

    He is an international treasure.
