Good Advertising Round-up

I love advertising. Half of the ads out there are just terrible, or simply loud and annoying to demand you listen to them, and we tend to fast-forward through most of them anyways, but once in a while there are meaningful and creative ads that capture your attention. Here are a few of the great ones I have seen lately…

Guinness: A timeless ad created for the beer drinker in all of us. (Also…for those who love an Irish accent voiceover.)

Gatorade/Derek Jeter: For the baseball fan and New Yorkers. Even if you aren’t a Yankees fan, this is a touching ad in honor of Jeter’s retirement.

Ikea: This is a great play on all the technological gadget ads these days. Sometimes having a bookbook would just be easier.

What other good ads are out there right now? Share them in the comments if you have seen any.

  1. It’s been so long since I watched TV on the TV that I can’t even remember the last time I paid attention to a commercial.

Which is the whole reason that marketers are forced into coming up with an idea that is smart enough to go viral…no one watches tv on tv anymore.

  2. Here’s a Guinness commercial that will make you cry (like that thread from last week that I read last night):

Also, I forgot my headphones today and can’t watch any of these. Bummer. I do love the Ikea one.

  3. I feel like there are a lot of great commercials right now and also a lot of terrible commercials. I can’t think of any off the top of my head. This is kind of old but that Subaru commercial where the 3(ish)-year-old is sitting in the driver’s seat? Ugh, it gets me. That puppy commercial I posted earlier, although I saw that on the internet, not the TV. I’ll think of others, I’m sure.

Shoot you guys! I forgot to add this one too!

Mr. Costco paused this for me, since he knows my love for Kristen Bell would extend to commercials. Her and Dax Sheperd are adorable together.

For all you Chicago monsters, and baseball people (?), this one kills me and I have no attachment to either.

It is ancient though (it is 2 years old).

This commercial isn’t new, but the Samsung watch commercial is very good at making me want the Samsung watch. Who doesn’t want to be like Maxwell Smart?
