The Next Best Thing

Growing up without a limb must be one of the most difficult things to deal with as a child.  Engineering non-profit Limbless Solutions tries to make the experience more positive by enabling families to make their own limbs via 3D printing.  To promote their product, they teamed up with Marvel to design a special arm based off of Iron Man’s armor.  7-year-old Alex was the first recipient of this arm, and he was in for a real treat.  It was presented to him by the one and only Robert Downey Jr., reprising his role as Tony Stark.  The two showed off their wares, even exchanging a fist bump at the end.  The arm may not enable Alex to fly, shoot lasers, or pick up cars, but it’s an easy way to brighten a kid’s life.

Is it getting really dusty in here, or is it just me?

The world is kind of amazing. Both the people and the stuff.

Just want to brag a bit: the company who made the arm was founded by alumni from my alma mater and are still based in Orlando, and my station covered this story when the boy got an earlier, less fancy 3D printed arm, and we just interviewed Alex again yesterday!
