Keeping The Mad Men Tradition Alive

The series finale of Mad Men may have come and gone, but there are still some fun stories about the show floating around.  Take this little tale regarding BuzzFeed reporter Susan Cheng’s interview with actor Paul Johansson, who played Ferg Donnelly, aka the douchemonster that hit on Joan and ultimately cost her her position at McCann-Erickson (aka some other jackhole named Dan Scott).  While conducting the interview, Cheng and a group of female staffers were treated to a complement of quotes that left them wondering if there was any difference between the thespian and his on-screen persona.

Here are some of the fun nuggets he dropped during the interview:

When talking about sports:

“My serve is pretty strong,” he said. “I’ll serve the ball right down your throat.”

Okay, well, I’ve heard that phrase use before in a non-sexual way, so maybe this was all just taken out of context.

This next one, I’m not so sure:

“I’m not shy,” he said to my colleagues and me under the hot fluorescent lights inside the studio. I laughed at his improvisation, which admittedly was pretty funny. Then he said, a little too casually, “I’m sweating like a rapist,” wiping his forehead and the sides of his face, seemingly not paying attention to the camera that was recording those very words.

As far as I know, “sweating like a rapist” isn’t a common saying, so I don’t know if I can give him a pass on this one.

It was promptly followed with:

With his hand on my back for the second time, he asked, “Do you ever take people in there and make out with them?”

Alright, I’m out.

Also known as the awful Dan Scott. I didn’t even feel bad for you when that dog ate your donor heart DAN!

I knew we’d have the same reaction!!!!

He also played Steve Sanders’ jerk frat brother John Sears on 90210. Basically he has made a career of playing assholes. Based off the interview above, I am not sure much acting is involved.

He, like Jon Hamm, looks like the kind of guy who should’ve been playing 40+ year old characters his entire life.

Please call him by his real name: Dan Scott from One Tree Hill.

I have heard the phrase ‘sweating like a rapist’ more than I would care to (though tbh, even once is more times than I would want to) so I guess it is a thing, but the thing that it is, is a creepy thing.
