Last week, American robot maker MegaBot issued a challenge to their counterparts in Japan, Suidobashi Heavy Industries. They felt that their robot, the Mark 2, could beat their rivals’ Kuratas machine in a duel. Well this past weekend, Suidobashi sent their reply…
WTF else did you expect? This is JAPAN we’re talking about. Like the CEO Kogoro Kurata said, their country put giant fighting robots on the map (among other things). There’s no way they would back down from this match. They did stipulate one condition: the machines must face off in hand to hand combat. That does put MegaBot at a disadvantage, as guns are kind of an American specialty. Kuratas also benefits from having more advanced technology, but MegaBots co-founder Gui Cavalcanti appears confident in overcoming this obstacle.
“[Suidobashi] is about three times faster than we are. Their tech is currently more advanced, but we have about a year to catch up. I think it’ll even out.”
The U.S. has already bested Japan this year, so hopefully that momentum will carry over to the next.
