Challenge Accepted

Last week, American robot maker MegaBot issued a challenge to their counterparts in Japan, Suidobashi Heavy Industries.  They felt that their robot, the Mark 2, could beat their rivals’ Kuratas machine in a duel.  Well this past weekend, Suidobashi sent their reply…

WTF else did you expect?  This is JAPAN we’re talking about.  Like the CEO Kogoro Kurata said, their country put giant fighting robots on the map (among other things).  There’s no way they would back down from this match.  They did stipulate one condition: the machines must face off in hand to hand combat.  That does put MegaBot at a disadvantage, as guns are kind of an American specialty.  Kuratas also benefits from having more advanced technology, but MegaBots co-founder Gui Cavalcanti appears confident in overcoming this obstacle.

“[Suidobashi] is about three times faster than we are.  Their tech is currently more advanced, but we have about a year to catch up. I think it’ll even out.”

The U.S. has already bested Japan this year, so hopefully that momentum will carry over to the next.

  1. Just put our soccer team in that robot.

I don’t mean to hijack the awesome power of robots fighting robots (which will distract them from human targets for a while), but the Dissolve, a film site that Manners and I frequented, just shuttered. The community was very similar to VG, and now I’m sad about it all over again.

  3. Mecha anime was always my favorite. I am a little disappointed that these robots aren’t as tall as buildings but I guess that’ll be Gen 2. Now I want to watch Pacific Rim again.

The american flag capes are a nice touch. #murica
