Monster Community Pool – 10/13/2015

It’s officially fall, as I made my first pumpkin pie last night.

  • Can someone explain to me what the deal is with Vin Diesel’s body?  Was that shirtless pic super old?  Was it a prosthetic stomach?  Is he REALLY good at sucking in his gut?
  • It is the end of an era.
  • An interesting way to clean our polluted waters.
  • I don’t remember these toys.

There is no fall in LA anymore, just summer. Endless summer. I hate cold weather, but things are getting ridiculous here. Now it doesn’t even get cooler when the sun goes down. It’s just a wall of heat outside 24 hours a day. In the past 12 years that I lived in Venice, I never used my A/C more than 5 times per year; this year, I’ve run it every day for the last three months. I don’t even have a point to this story, it’s just really hot and I think my brain is melting.

Climate change sucks. Just ask me come February when I can’t see out of my house again.

    • I am so miserable. I just want the hotness to GO AWAY. I went and saw Everest this weekend so I could vicariously feel the cold and I am once again sleeping on my couch because it’s the only room in my apartment with AC. The next politician to say climate change isn’t real is going to be forced to spend the weekend in my apartment and suffer along with me.

Wow, the Playboy news is kind of huge. It’s funny: If you look at their “girl next door” photos from the 1960s and early 70s, they are way sexier than the waaay more explicit “pneumatic-boob blondes” photos from the 90s. Also, it IS shocking to see how much more extensive were the articles and fiction back then. If you are ever in an old vintage junk shop and see a case of Playboys from 1974 or so, take a look. I am right. You will see.

I missed the How Was Your Weekend post because yesterday was still my weekend (thanks, Columbus), so I will go ahead and let you know about it here. I went to STL for a wedding and it was pretty great. One of the bride’s uncles looked like Larry David and once I had enough to drink I let him know. Apparently he hears that a lot.
I also went up in the arch, which wasn’t even something I knew you could do. If you have any issues with enclosed spaces, I do not recommend going up. You’re basically in a barrel-shaped coffin for four minutes on your way to the top. The view from up there is pretty cool, but I enjoyed it less knowing that I had to ride back down. I would have much rather taken the stairs but they aren’t open to the public. After four days in the midwest I was happy to get back to the east coast where people are less nice.

      Here’s me and “Larry”

I DID know that about the arch, which is why I’ve never gone up it. Plus, once, when I was about 8, we were staying in a hotel in downtown St. Louis and I saw a lightning bolt hit the top. I noped right the hell out of that.

You know how at amusement parks they’ll sometimes have the seats for the ride at the beginning of the line so you can see how comfortable you’ll be in it? Well if they had that at the arch I never would have done it. But after waiting in line for 45 minutes, I just kind of powered through it. When we finally got to the front the only words that came out of my mouth were “oh my god those doors are really small”.

I went up in the Arch in August during a conference so I was with a bunch of strangers in there. We agreed that it was like what Walt Disney thought the year 1999 would be like.

I have been too busy to do much but I still want to say Hi! I read up on your old posts and it looks like things are chugging along.

Hey! How’s that baby of yours? And I hope things are better with your incision! (Is that a weird thing to say to a person I’ve never met IRL? YOU BE THE JUDGE!)
