So, How Was Your Day? AND, Secret Santa Sign Up! (CLOSED)

My day was very busy and rainy, but I did have leftover Thanksgiving stuffing fried up in a pan with eggs for dinner, which was a genius move, so I’m calling it a win.

ALSO. It’s time for Secret Santa signups!

If you’d like to participate, fill out the form below the cut (more on that in a sec), start thinking about fun gifts in the $20 range, and wait for an email from me or martinmegz! We’ll send you your person, and then we’ll all get our gifting on.

Now, for the form: Only I, martinmegz, and your Santa will see any of this information. I need your real name, your preferred email address, your Homeless Monsters user name (lurkers, we love you, but we also have no idea who you are and will therefore not buy you presents. Say hi sometime and maybe we will!), your mailing address, and any other relevant info–if you have any food allergies, for example. I would prefer that no one got a gift that could kill them.

(12/7/15:  The poll is now closed.)

If I knew all those years ago that the username I typed into Videogum were going to be such a big part of my life, I wouldn’t have chosen such a stupid name. But I’m glad I joined the community, so if there are any lurkers here, please introduce yourself! You can’t possibly come up with a stupider username than mine.

Today has been excellent! I found out that my sister’s sucky ex-boyfriend will no longer be working in my office as of a few weeks from now, and also that I am probably going to be promoted! Not any time soon, but hopefully by spring which, considering that when I first asked for a promotion a month or two ago they told me it would take at least a year, is very good news!

Excellent! How did you get rid of him? We need to pass on the tips to Flanny.

      • catweazle says:

It was a temporary position but I know my immediate managers were trying to get it extended, and there was even the possibility floated at one point that he might be hired as a permanent member of the department. But it didn’t get approved in the budget. DARN! I am very proud of myself tbh because even though I have wanted to shove him into a bee pit for months and months now, I never said a word about it and kept it super profesh even when I was forced to be his mentor for a while. I earned these karmic rewards, goddammit!

Ooh, since you asked (no you didn’t), I saw him for the first time since the office move today. He was in the hallway outside my office talking to a couple of other people and I chimed in on their conversation a couple of times. And then I turned away and started typing an email and everyone else scattered, and so did he! He’s learning that when someone is working, it’s weird and rude to stand around in their office!!

  3. Today has been pretty good in the grand scheme of things, compared to the rest of this week. I am eating a Jimmy John’s #6 before a call. Both of my contract projects are in full swing, but one is letting me be flexible to accommodate the other. I turned down that full time job last night. They offered me really good money and benefits, but I knew I’d be miserable. So now I’m going to be doing contract to hire starting in January at another place.

Tonight is trivia which I haven’t been to in weeks. And hopefully sleep, I haven’t slept well in like a week.

I know I bitched and moaned about teaching, but I’m having the class do peer evaluations for their presentations, and 1) they are so encouraging of each other, even knowing that they’ll be anonymous and 2) they took the assignment WAY seriously and I think I love them. Some of their critiques, while valid, are cracking me up.

Speaking of adorable students, last month I had my students call alumni on the phone and ask to update their addresses, etc. I’m just now getting the chance to go through and approve those changes, and I google all the changes first to make sure things are spelled correctly/have correct zips, etc. One of my students changed an address to a street called “Pornish Falls Road.” But when I googled it I discovered it was actually “Cornice Falls Road.” Perfect misheard name.

We got some weird, bad news at work yesterday morning which doesn’t necessarily negative impact me directly, but which is sad nonetheless, so most people in the office are kind of being extra cheery so that we avoid talking about it. It’s weird because there is for sure a bit of a black cloud/elephant in the room thing going on.

But just now one of my favorite students stopped by since Christmas break is coming up, and that was delightful. This day gets two and three-quarter stars.

Today my grandparents are moving from the farmhouse my grandfather has lived in his entire life to their new apartment in a nursing home. I’m trying to focus on work as a result. There was a slip up that my bosses missed yesterday that the consensus is that if I had been in the meeting, I would have caught it and it is a bummer that it was missed, but I think this is a good thing for me to prove my value and try to be included in more aspects of this stuff which is something I’ve been wanting and asking for for a long time.

I just turned my last big print project of the year over to the printer!!! I’m going to relax tonight because I have to build a small website by early next week, and I barely know what I’m doing, so the next few days are probably going to be high stress!

  8. FRQ says:

I’m alright, all things considered. My body is aching all over thanks to personal training last night, but I’ll get over it. Also, God bless him, my dad is yet again trying to set me up with someone. This time it’s the daughter of a long time family friend, who, while a perfectly good person, is someone I know fairly well and I know will never work. I am going to have to confront him about this again, which is never pleasant. Once that is done with I’ll head off to trivia and hopefully leave that incident in the past.

I’m slowly dragging Christmas out of the basement today. It’s a little early for me but we’re hosting the Choral Society’s Christmas party this year, and it’s next week! 😬🎄🎄🎄

  10. Casey says:

Now all I want is fried leftover stuffing and eggs. That sounds INCREDIBLE.

  11. Sota says:

Today has been tough. Just general work nonsense I have been fighting all day, and a personal relationship issue that is draining me. Other than that I have nothing to complain about…im healthy and safe and things are just fine. But its still just been one of those “need more cat gifs in my life” kind of days.

I am killing it at my new job. They wanted me to take it easy and get settled in for the first week before I started doing anything, but nuts to that! I’ve been filing motions like crazy and I took over dictation duties from a few of the other girls because I am not the kind of person who can just sit around. I am foreclosing on the house of a celebrity! I can’t say anything because of client-attorney privilege but woops this celebrity is going to lose a house! Probably this person has a zillion homes and just doesn’t realize that they’re in arrears. Hopefully this person is so grateful to me for pointing it out that this person buys me lots of nice stuff. Fingers crossed!

  13. mordonez says:

My username started somewhere or another as just a shortened version of an at-the-time favorite baseball player’s name–who knew I would actually keep using the thing, right?

I spent my week off from work having what I thought was just a very tiring cold, but was probably a flu, and turned into a touch of the pneumonia, if the lady at the urgent care is to be believed. It seems like she was probably right, because the drugs she put me on are helping, and I am no longer coughing up a lung every other minute. It was not pleasant, friends.

Work is bizarre–there’s nothing to do, but that doesn’t seem to be much of a problem in anyone’s mind, so…ok? I did get my big new keyboard (and was sick enough to leave it in its box for almost 3 days, which is not what happens when one gets a new piece of musical equipment) and I think I’m very happy with it. My kitten acquisition plans have also been put on hold by illness, but we’re trying to reschedule, so that’s also something to which I am looking quite forward…

I ALSO made chilaquiles with leftover stuffing yesterday! We are geniuses!
