So, How Was Your Day?

My day was looooong and I’m feeling pretty tired and gross from the post-holiday sugar crash. I’m off on Friday and won’t be posting, so tell me about your New Year’s plans now! Even if they involve Netflix and your couch, because those are the best kind of plans.

I’ve been really procrastinating today (and really this whole week) on an informational document I’m supposed to write up for work, so I’m going to force myself to finish it this afternoon. I’m very much in “impress my corporate overlords” mode right now because I want a promotion because I want more money. It seems very unfair that one must work hard in order to obtain these things!

Re: New Years, I’m having a dilemma. I haven’t gone out for New Years in a long time because of multiple shitty experiences but there’s a small part of me that wants to this year. I do plan to go see Carol after work tomorrow but I can’t decide if that should be followed up by drinking a bottle of champagne and watching the original Star Wars trilogy by myself at my apartment or if I should go to the bar my friend works at and at least hang out until midnight. Either way I’m going to do better than last year when I was a total loser and went to sleep before midnight without even getting drunk first!

Ugh I’m so bored. It’s just me and the CEO in the office today, every single other person is on vacation. I have no plans for New Years but something will come up at the last minute, I’m sure. Is there a Christmas episode of Sherlock coming out this week? Can any Cumberbitches fill me in? (That feels like a really offensive word to type but I’m operating under the impression that it’s not?)

Here’s a great story about a goat and a tiger being friends, but ***SPOILER*** the tiger is supposed to get a new lady tiger to mate with and I’m really worried about the goat’s survival.

Really great day, so far! As I stated before, I’m writing a PEN/Faulkner award-winning novel in 2016, one chapter a month, and so this week I’ve been trying to plan out the whole thing so that I can write write write next year. And I planned out the whole plot today! It involves old timey times and curses and a kidnapping and handsome (but dumb) fellows, so I hopefully will remain as committed to it as I am at this moment. I bought the doughnut and ate it, and I also bought a humidifier because winter is giving me the skin of a 13-year-old.

Tomorrow morning I’m taking the train down to Chicago where I will be getting drunk with friends while playing board games, I think. There’s talk of watching the MSU game, but I am incredibly uninterested in that, so I hope to convince my adult friends to watch 1D on New Years Rockin’ Eve. Then I’ve given myself enough time to get sort of not hungover on the 1st and I’ll be training back home. I promise to take longer trips to Chicago in the future, Chicago monsters, so I can see you!

(Last 1D gif share of the year.)

My day has been alright so far. Aside from work, I’ve been attempting to make copies of my Star Wars discs for my sister, who has never seen any of the movies. I was facing my own dilemma, as I had to choose between the Special Editions, or the bonus discs, which have the original movies untouched, but are basically a shitty port of the laserdisc versions. I may have found a solution with this fan edit, assuming I can find it. But even that isn’t without its issues, as apparently Return of the Jedi doesn’t have a finished version. For the sake of simplicity, I may just give her the special edition of that movie, even if it means subjecting her to the young Anakin ghost *shudders*.

Also, I will be posting one last article tomorrow, so those of you who are forced to work will have something to peruse.

Thank you! I’ll be working tomorrow until such time as I can reasonably lock the office and sneak out.

I am very lucky because my friend was about to leave on a two year trip around the world and had to get rid of a lot of her stuff and she presented me with her original un-fucked-with VHS copies of the original trilogy. One of these days I might even actually dig out my VCR and hook it up and watch them! It seems like a momentous thing though because the version I grew up watching was the special edition box set that came in the Darth Vader silver and gold boxes so I’ve truly never seen the movies in their original glory.

When I die, I want my ghost to be young and hot and not in whatever state of decrepitude I’m at when I finally kick the bucket.

Although I guess the originals weren’t much better on that front, with Anakin having his limbs and hair and skin intact.

My day was good because I got my Secret Santa gift today and it was a good one! I don’t think we are allowed to say what it was yet, but are we allowed to thank our person by name? I don’t know! For now, thank you, Secret Santa, if you’re reading this! I also had brunch with my brother, who isn’t staying with me this week after all. It’s like, I was secretly wishing all along that he and his wife would get a hotel room this week, but when they went ahead and decided to do just that, I felt offended? BRAINS, amirite?

P.S. There was also a weird part of my morning wherein Rudy and I walked past what looked to be a severed squirrel tail, but like just the fluffy part, no blood or gross stuff or anything. What’s the symbolism in that? I’m choosing to see it as a stroke of luck for the new year but I’m not a scientist.

I had a similar experience over Christmas. My sister lives out in the boonies so I was running on country roads and thought I saw a disembodied bird head just hanging out in the middle of the cement, but I didn’t have my glasses on and I sure wasn’t going to stop and get a better look. But there was no bird body anywhere! What?

    • gnidrah says:

I got mine today as well & it was amazing! So thank you Secret Santa and I look forward to a) eating it and b) when we can name names and thank properly!

    • We’ll be having our Secret Santa reveal post next week!

We’re going out to eat at this hipster restaurant and they are having a live band. Then I’m trying to convince Manners to come over and finish up this season of Doctor Who and then watch the Sherlock ep. I am also making black-eyed peas because I am southern and it’s a thing no matter how many Boston grocery stores I have to go to.
