How Was Your Weekend?

I don’t have the day off work, so you’re all getting my weekend post now! Mine was very good. On Saturday I cleaned and did laundry and watched A Series Of Unfortunate Events on Netflix (verdict: enjoyable, and it inspired me to start re-reading the books), and then on Sunday I went grocery shopping and then out to lunch, where I got to have the best fried chicken sandwich in the world, which my sister-in-law and I save as a yearly treat.

I am also at work today. I didn’t do anything interesting this weekend, sadly. I did clean my apartment and clear 4 bags of stuff out of my closet. If you walked into my house right now you’d think, “wow, martinmegz is a slob.” But if you’d walked in on Friday you would have thought, “oh, this is what a cry for help looks like.” So big improvement!

Second podcast recording went very well! We won’t be recording again until February but once we have three or four episodes in the can I’ll start putting them online. I was pretty lazy on Saturday. I think I played Zelda for like five hours which is a lot for me! Then I packed and got drunk and watched Magic Mike XXL for the first time and I loved it of course, especially because of the Backstreet Boys content.

I got into Montreal yesterday and honestly my flights were terrible. The first one wasn’t so bad as flights go but I had a horrible headache. I managed to sleep through most of it but it wasn’t very restful. My connecting flight was a nightmare. There was a lady with two small children sitting close to me and the younger child was screaming for most of the flight and the mom did not try to shush her once! Eventually she pulled out an iPad and put Frozen on WITHOUT HEADPHONES. The children were mostly quiet after that but THE REST OF THE PLANE DOESN’T WANT TO LISTEN TO YOUR FUCKING MOVIE. I couldn’t believe the flight attendants didn’t do anything about it. I wanted to scream. But I finally got to my hotel last night and ordered room service and watched Pitch Perfect 2 on the hotel TV so that was nice.

Seriously!! I don’t even dislike Frozen or anything but I don’t need to hear it on a plane. Also the two obnoxious girls sitting behind this family sang along quietly to Let It Go. It was insane.

Despite my love for Kristen Bell, I don’t really like that movie. Also, I HATE Let It Go, and think that Do You Wanna Build a Snowman is a far superior song, but that might be because I prefer Bell’s voice.

I find the Magic Mike movies a bit boring tbh, but I could have watched that Backstreet Boys scene for 2 hours. It was so good.

  3. I ran the Disneyland half-marathon yesterday and it was roughhhhh. I definitely did not prepare as well as a should and I was in so much pain afterwards. However, I had already made plans to do the park afterwards with friends instead of spending the day on a couch whimpering in pain. We had a lot of fun, even though the lines felt like a unique torture strategy and that I constantly made everyone take breaks and sit for a while. Now I am planning to spend the entire day on my cozy chair and literally not move unless there is some sort of fire.

  4. My weekend was pretty good. I took Friday off and treated myself to brunch. Then I spent a lot of money on new underwear, but it was totally worth it. Then I spent Saturday/Sunday eating lots of food. Last night I saw a Bowie cover band play. So now my week is all Bowie all the time. I’m looking forward to having the next two nights “off” from friends/bf, I need a break.

Not a bad weekend! Yesterday I did a little baby shower supply shopping for my sister-in-law’s shower, and because the weather was warm and dry, I finally changed the registration sticker on my license plate. Also, I had promised myself I’d get to have a chocolate shake if I wrote a certain number of words (a number which is so small, it is shameful), and even though I wrote the words, I didn’t go and get the milkshake! I’ll save it for later this week.

Weekend was pretty good. I spent all day on Friday dreaming of the DiGiorno pizza in our freezer, but Mr. Costco came home with stuff to make a pizza, so he prepared that instead. Unfortunately, we found out our oven was broken, so all the dreams of pizza were gone. The upside of that night was that he found Pumpkin Spice Madeleine cookies at Target, and they taste just like my mom’s pumpkin cake, so basically, they taste perfect.

I chose to sleep in instead of going to pick up my new glasses, but I actually made it to the bank!!

I finished the book I was reading and got a lot of work stuff done, and we got takeout pizza on Saturday, and had enough for leftovers on Sunday. Yay for pizza!

Well, the plan for this weekend was that I would use it to fix my life, and I was halfway successful! On Saturday I worked up several sweats cleaning my apartment, including BEHIND AND UNDER THE FRIDGE and taking short breaks in between each task, so yay me. I also bathed my dog and suffered a non-calamitous fall in the bathtub while doing so. I am just a little bruised up, but I definitely had a moment of like holy shit am I all here and why am I not married right now as I was assessing the potential damage.

On Sunday I rested from all the work as the good Lord intended and went to see Hidden Figures, which was literally so delightful although I recognize the reason for this is because it probably glossed over some realness in order to give us a triumphant ending where all the white people in the movie are redeemed. Think Remember the Titans — a still-powerful crowd-pleaser type except a million times better and SASSIER.

And then yesterday I was going to run a bunch of errands around town but I had to take my car to get checked out because I’d had trouble starting it the night before and then when it finally did start a bunch of weird smoke came out of the exhaust. The service guy then proceeded to be extremely patronizing and unhelpful when I was trying to get him to let me know how long the car would take to get looked at (not how long it would take for the work to be done, mind you!), i.e. how many other cars were ahead of me so I could ascertain whether I should Uber home or wait there for a firmer ETA on the overall work needed. He kept saying it was hard to know, and I was like I feel like it would be rather easy to know that, and he was like, I don’t know how many cars are ahead of you, and I was like you didn’t even try to find out and he was like I was just back there 10 minutes ago. And I wanted to scream with hot rage so then I just waited because I figured surely any minute now they would get to do a pre-assessment on my car. Cut to 3 hours later when the actual mechanic finally came out and was like, we don’t know what could be wrong but we can do a fuel pressure check tomorrow if you can leave your car here overnight. So there went my afternoon. Carless and angry, I Ubered home and angry ordered and ate too much delivery, the end.

Then today, still hopeful about my new lease on life from Friday, I dressed up to work and fixed my hair and makeup properly for once in a very long time, except I thought that it was Monday and didn’t realize that I was 30 minutes late for my Tuesday morning conference call, so my sort-of boss texted me in a flurry like, where are you, and it wouldn’t have been so bad had she not already talked to me about missing this call two other times last week for embarrassing reasons (oversleeping).

In conclusion, I’m trying to fix my life here, Universe, can you please cooperate! Also, it is embarrassing how much I vented on a thread that probably none of you are still visiting.

    • flanny says:

I’m visiting!! And I also loved Hidden Figures and I also recently spent FAR TOO LONG at a car place just for them to basically shrug at me and then charge me $80. And last week I totally forgot about a conference call and I missed it because I was in another office just chatting it up. And back in November I fell in the parking lot and had to call 911 on myself! So I feel you. (I have not cleaned behind my fridge in memory.)
