So, How Was Your Day?

Mine was uneventful, which made me happy. And I finally went to the grocery store! I forgot about half of what I needed, but it’s the thought that counts.

I am halfway through my “Come to Toronto and train 11 people” trip and it turns out training 11 people is exhausting! They’re split into two groups so I spend four hours with one group in the morning and then teach all the same stuff to the other group for four hours in the afternoon. So of course I keep forgetting which group I told what. But otherwise the trip is good. I like Toronto! I went to a record store last night and bought One Chord To Another by Sloan on vinyl because hello, I am in Canada and they actually carry Sloan records at their stores!

Oh also some of my trainees have been putting their phones on the conference table next to them and checking them periodically throughout the day (not during breaks) and I find that super rude! These are not work phones, they’re definitely personal. And there are these two people who are apparently buddies and they sit next to each other every day and sometimes will obviously be typing things to each other and looking at each other’s screens and giggling and sometimes even whispering to each other and I am literally sitting like less than a foot away from them and obviously can tell they’re not paying attention. SHOW SOME RESPECT YOU WHIPPERSNAPPERS!

I could take a nap RIGHT NOW.

  3. My day is fine. I’m working from home and the only food I have in the fridge is pico de gallo and cottage cheese so I have to leave the house at some point. But it’s great to watch the US Open while working!

I would like to address an issue that’s bothering me right now. What is up with people not acknowledging receipt of gifts? I sent baby shower gifts to two cousins and a birthday gift to my nephew, and no one has let me know whether the gifts arrived! I don’t even need a thank you, just let me know they showed up so I don’t have to worry about it. I find that about 80% of the time, people don’t tell me they got something I sent unless I ask.

My coworker was just complaining about this! She sent her daughter-in-law a birthday present and hadn’t heard from them, and it ended up that she saw the box but assumed it was a standing order for baby food and never opened it because she didn’t need that baby food yet.

This happens to me too. The grumpy old person in me is like “I guess I should stop sending gifts then…”. It sucks. Just a simple “hey I got your gift!” would be minimal but a simple “thank you for the gift” text wouldn’t kill ya…

Same here. I’ve sent a few books to the nieces and nephews to corrupt them and it is not reported that the packages were received unless I ask. I feel weird asking, like I am fishing for gratitude. I am not fishing, I just want to make sure the delivery guy didn’t leave it by the wrong door and now it is getting rained on!

It was ultimately reported to me, once, that a book I sent was appreciated, but that leaves two books that I have no idea if the kids dug em or not. So am I on the right track? Should I send the rest of that series, or quit browbeating you poor kids with it? I JUST WANT TO IMPROVE/RUIN YOUR LIVES AND I NEED A LITTLE HELP.

My day is fine so far, but is fraught with anticipation, kind of. Some dude reached out to me via BandMix (I signed up when I was looking for a replacement drummer), so I am going to meet a bass playing stranger and a drummer whose name I don’t even know to play for an hour and a half and see if we think there’s potential for something along the lines of Weather Report/pre-Futureshock Herbie Hancock, and other such jazz/funk fusion deals. Who knows? It could be a thing!

I’m so tired! I think it’s a combination of not going to bed early enough and taking my Xanax during the day. It’s a SUPER low dose of Xanax, but damn, it makes me want to take a nap.

I have a big box of Mint Meltaways in the freezer, and a piece of Portillo’s chocolate cake in the fridge, so I’d say that if my day was being graded on food, it would be an A+.

I’m still debating whether or not I should go through with my upcoming colonoscopy or hold out for the doctor I would prefer to see. Either option has pros and cons, so I’m stressing about what the right decision is.

I found a solution! The doctor I initially wanted to see wasn’t at the location closest to my house, so I decided I would rather see the guy my dad saw since he was closer. But my dad’s doctor required a consultation appointment, and he was booked up for a long time.

After a lot of phone tag, I found out that I do NOT need a consultation first, and the doctor I initially wanted to see IS at the closer location to my house.

Now I don’t have to spend the holiday weekend prepping which is nice, and I have a little more time to process my anxiety. I’m still dreading having this procedure, but at least I figured out a plan.
