So, How Was Your Day?

Mine was COLD. It snowed a bunch here, and the roads were a mess on my morning drive to work, but it settled down and is actually quite pretty right now, I guess. It’s hard to have an entire season as a nemesis, guys.

I had to get up at 5:30 this morning to make it to our staff meeting. This is earlier than I usually have to get up, so I’m tired. The silver lining is that we have flex time at work, so if you come in early, you get to leave early.

Theresa, I also hate winter, and I will continue to wonder why I still live in Illinois until spring. I don’t like the cold, but snow and ice are what I hate the most about winter.

Let me tell you guys about my current favorite treats:
    1. Ben & Jerry’s now has dairy free options, and one of those options is Cherry Garcia!
    2. Entenmann’s Pop’Ems Glazed Donut Holes which are basically little bites of heaven!

    • We’ve lucked out with the past two winters being pretty mild, but this one is already TERRIBLE* and I hate it.

*(there have been two days of moderate snow, I am a huge baby)

I feel like a brat saying this but I guess that won’t stop me: it’s pretty hot in LA today. It’s 5:30 and I’m still sitting outside working. It continues to blow my mind that weather is so different at the same time in different places. How does geography work?

I’m in Washington DC for a conference, and I’ve never been here before somehow! I had this morning free before the conference started so I decided to do literally everything I’ve ever wanted to do in DC this morning and I got it all accomplished! Vietnam Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian, MLK on the National Mall, and even a quick spotting of the White House as I walked. Because the Smithsonian is huge, I picked out one thing I needed to see and then anything else was gravy, and the thing I needed to see was a lifevest from the Titanic. It was very emotional, and eventually I ended up in happy tears in front of Theodore Roosevelt’s wife’s dress while surrounded by school children vocally hating on our curent President. 😀

Oh my gosh come to LA, we’ll go see the Titanic exhibit at the Reagan Library. I want to see the spy museum in DC, that’s a thing, right? Hope it’s a fun conference!

Welcome to DC! I work downtown and try not to take everything for granted. It really helps that we have two small kids who haven’t seen any of it so we get to experience it again with fresh eyes. Air and Space, Natural History, American History, Native American, African, African American… there are SO many things to see! In a single day you can see a Moon rock, the Hope diamond, Kermit the frog, Prince’s guitar, and the bus Rosa Parks was on when she wouldn’t give up her seat. And that’s just the museums!

At one of my earlier jobs in another part of town, I was walking to lunch and saw a sign on an old house across from Ford’s Theater. I ended up getting a solo tour of the house where Lincoln was taken after he was shot by John Wilkes Booth, including the bed where he died hours later. It was very moving, and I was the only person on the tour!

FLANNY. I AM SO UPSET THAT I DIDN’T KNOW THIS IN ADVANCE. WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN DRINKS.

Guys guess whattttttt? I just got to be the first audience to see a new movie starring my favorite actor — we all know who that is but don’t type his name here because I’m not supposed to talk about it! It was one of those test audiences where we gave feedback after, and that’s all I’ll say until it comes out. I don’t actually have any inside info, just my opinion, and I’m sure everyone can handle waiting to hear it.

My day yesterday was okay. We had a work party that was kind of fun but I had to leave early to get my kid. One of my kids has been sick for awhile and it’s the worst. I just need him to go back to being healthy so things can be cool again. He’s getting better.
At the work thing, they did a yearly recap where they asked people to talk about what they’re proud of this year and it was cool to hear from people but also kind of a bummer being like “uhhh…dunno.”

I had a big ambition to read a bunch of short stories last night. Like four. I don’t read enough short stories, even though they are ideal for my attention span. (v short.) It was an elaborate plan where I would drink tea during the first two, then break for an apple and watch Mad Men (I have a whole bag of apples) and then during the fourth one drink a glass of wine. But I only read one and fell asleep at 9:00.
