Tuesday TV Talk

So there appears to be interest in a revival of The Office.  Fuck that.  What have you been watching?

I want a Happy Endings revival! Nothing else matters! Although I should be careful what I wish for because I thought I wanted a new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm and when I got it, I ended up hating it.

I enjoyed Hunted on Amazon Prime, think of it like an 8-hour movie because it was a limited series but they did a great job. I also liked Manhunt on Netflix, aside from the episode that made me feel empathy for the Unabomber. It’s not easy to tell a story about the search for someone we all know is in prison and make it interesting, but they did it!

    • Yes, I hate that we keep getting revivals of shows that already overstayed their welcome (and I loved The Office, but come on), when they could bring back the ones that should never have been canceled!

I finished watching Godless. Not impressed. I am now catching up on Younger, and I am enjoying this season.

The O.C. is a show I’ll throw on while I’m eating lunch or playing Candy Crush, and I’m surprised that I like it as much as I do. Peter Gallagher is pretty damn funny. And it takes a confident man to rock those eyebrows, but he pulls it off.

I saw that Southland is on Hulu. It’s been years since I’ve seen it, but I remember it being excellent. I think Hulu let me know it’s there since the actor who plays Ryan on the O.C. is in Southland. It’s a really well done character study of police in LA.

I have also come to the realization that Dawson (of Dawson’s Creek) and Ted (of How I Met Your Mother) are the same character.

Both consider themselves to be “romantic,” but they are actually desperate, creepy, and selfish.

I have been watching Hart of Dixie again and it is still a delight. I will probably throw on a few Christmas episodes of shows this week like the Parks and Rec ones and the one Gilmore Girls one. Anybody have any favorites?

    • I might fire up some old Simpsons episodes. It’s been too long since I’ve watched Mr. Plow (which isn’t even a Christmas one, I don’t think, but I always loved that Springfield got snow more than just on Christmas).

First off, I just came from Trader Joe’s where they were OUT OF CHOCOLATE CROISSANTS! There was a sign for them, but no boxes. I. Am. Crushed.

I’m embarassed to say that for the past couple of days my in-the-background TV show has been Property Brothers: Buying and Selling. To make up for that, yesterday I watched Antiques Roadshow and then a documentary called Supergirl, about a tween/teen, Orthodox Jewish girl who is a world champion weight lifter. Very recommended.

HGTV is one of my 4 background networks, too. One time they had some version of Property Brothers where they were building a dream home for one of the brothers and his fiance. I couldn’t take more than 5 minutes.

      • Tracey says:

My mom always has HGTV on and last time I was home I heard my dad muttering about how sick he is of those guys.

I saw a commercial for that one and I knew better than to tempt fate.

Related to terrible TV that I watch, while I was in DC I watched a lot of cable shows I can’t watch at home, which in the morning was primarily Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta. Then while I was waiting for my flight in the DC airport I had the amazing celebrity sighting of Monte from SYTTDA!! If I had seen him literally three days earlier I would have had no clue who he was, but he had been a very prominent part of my stay in our nation’s capital. It was very satisfying.

Random Q for my wise friends: what’s the deal with airline miles? I just got an email from AA saying I have 11,600 miles that expire in June 2018 but it looks like the lowest miles to go anywhere is 15,000. How do I use them? Can I put them towards a trip and pay the difference? Should I just forget about them and move on with my life?
