How Was Your Weekend?

Mine was good, despite being snowed in again (as if I mind).

A little admin note: we’d been getting a ton of spam comments for some reason, so I changed the settings and now only those commenters who have been previously approved will have their comments show up. You should all be fine since you’ve been commenting all along, but just in case, if you make a comment and it doesn’t appear right away, please be patient as I probably won’t be able to approve it until later this afternoon.

Yesterday I walked with my dog to the farmer’s market and bought chocolate, corn chips and guacamole. Guess what I had for dinner?

At curling yesterday we played against a team that was really evenly matched with us in terms of ability, so we ended up with a low-scoring tie game. It was really exciting!

Yesterday I had one of the best days in a long time. I went out to Malibu with two women I met on a women’s hiking Facebook group. We did a 5-mile hike to the site where M*A*S*H was filmed, then had drinks at this incredible place called Malibu Cafe, then drove home along PCH as the sun was setting. It was a beautiful day, 80 degrees and sunny, and the company was so great. It gets hard to make friends when you get older, so hanging out with new people who are super chill and down to explore is really a blessing. We kept taking chances that worked out, like once we went off the main trail down a dark path and ended up at a beautiful dam. Then I went home and watched five episodes of M*A*S*H, which totally holds up as a great show.

I had a pretty good weekend. I ended up seeing I, Tonya, and I enjoyed it for the most part. Unfortunately, I did not see any celebs at the seafood place, but the food was great, and the massive crowd provided welcome body heat for what was a frigid evening. I have today off for MLK day, but I haven’t done anything exciting. I’ll probably go out later to get a haircut and hit the gym.

Speaking of administrative notes, I will be letting my subscription of Homelessmonsters.com expire on Feb 9th. While the costs aren’t backbreaking, I just didn’t see the need to spend the money to keep that name. If I get an overwhelming amount of responses to keep it, I’ll do so, but I don’t see it being a big deal. However, I’m totally up for getting a name with a shitty cheap domain extension. The leading candidates at the moment are .club, .us, and .xyz. I’m partial to the first one.

We saw the Michael Keaton Batmobile at the Smithsonian American History Museum on Sunday, and Monday we went to see Coco, and I silently bawled at the end because it was so sweet and sad at the same time.

Oddly enough, though this is one of my favorite Pixar movies, it felt like an “event” movie, you know, where you see it and go through the experience of it, and then you feel like your journey is complete when it’s over and you don’t feel like you’ll ever feel compelled to see it again? I don’t think it will get repeated veiwings in my house, like Toy Story or The Incredibles does. It has too much emotional impact to be put on as background noise while you build Legos with the kids.
