It’s ProGRESS Club Time!

Let’s mix it up a little (although still tell me about your projects, if you wish) and talk about progress we’ve made recently–at anything, no matter how small!–because goals are nice but success is more fun to brag about.

I’ve been doing a really good job with exercise and healthy eating lately, and I’m starting to notice a big difference in how I look and feel. I’ve also managed to keep the apartment from looking like a cyclone blew through for an impressive-for-me stretch of time.

You guys, I’m done adjusting to my standing desk, and I stand all day like it’s nothing. Progress! You might think you’d end the day more tired, after standing for 8 hours, but I feel so much better than I did back in the olden days (October) when I sat in my car for 2 hours, then sat at work, then went home and mainly sat. I might have said this last month but it’s even truer now.

Tonight for dinner I plan to eat a giant pile of brussel sprouts. Eating better is a project I initiated for 2018. I am glad to see so many of us monsters are in this one together. I use a calorie-tracking app and it really helps me resist eating unnecessarily.

I also am trying to get up the courage to try a new coffee shop. I don’t want to betray my old coffeteria, plus it’s a more annoying walk, but for assorted reasons I might go there tonight after I finish my brussel sprouts.

I have a stand up desk and I love it! It’s a Varidesk, so I can adjust it if I want to sit down, but I haven’t done that once since I got it. I do need to invest in the floor mat because I guess that is better support than standing directly on the floor.

That’s almost exactly the same desk I bought! And same here, I never adjust it downward. I don’t have a mat either. I don’t feel like I need one. Hmm… Is there a medical reason for them, like “Doctors say your knees will be gimped by age 60 if you keep standing on the floor”?

I decided that this year, I would make a career change, or at least acquire the skills to do so. After some research, I determined my field of choice and started looking into things I could do to beef up my experience. One of those things is continued education, i.e. another degree or certification. Many of these programs have some math and programming prerequisites, so I started taking online courses in said topics.

My first subject is statistics, and I am happy to say that of the 463 units, I have completed 449 of them. I’m looking to finish out the rest by the end of the week!

I updated my resume and have started job searching. There are a few I’m going to apply for already! Also been scoping out Milwaukee real estate though it’s still too early to do any actual apartment hunting. But I’m getting a feel for what are the cheap neighborhoods and what are the fancy ones at least. I’m doing an… adequate job of managing my stress about moving and changing jobs in just over two months.
