Tuesday TV Talk

As they do every year, advertisers bombarded Super Bowl viewers with their best commercials and latest trailers.  Sunday’s game featured preview of the second season of Westworld, which definitely wasn’t a Tide ad.  I have mixed feelings about the first season, but it intrigued me enough to stick around.  The new season starts on April 22nd.

  1. I watched the first few episodes of Altered Carbon on Netflix, but I don’t know if I’ll finish it. I love a good sci-fi noir, and the premise and actors were good (and like 50% of it is just Joel Kinnaman either naked or stomping around in a long coat, which I appreciated), but the overall vibe was very Budget Blade Runner. It felt cobbled together from stuff we’ve all seen before, when they could’ve made it really fresh and original. Oh well.

In theory this show should be right up my alley, but I found it kind of a drag to watch. I think the acting is pretty terrible.

      • The corny dialogue definitely didn’t help. I can forgive a clunker here and there in pilot episodes, when a show is setting everything up and there’s a lot of necessary exposition, but after that, there’s no excuse.

Cougar Town just got added to Hulu which is great because only the first three seasons got released on DVD so I haven’t been able to rewatch the later seasons. You should all watch it! They abandon the “cougar” gimmick pretty quickly so don’t judge it by the pilot.

iZombie starts on February 26, so I am looking forward to that. The last season wasn’t as great as the first two, but I still love it.

I’m going to have to watch that Westworld trailer. I liked season 1 for the most part, so I’ll give season 2 a chance.

I also really liked the last episode of the Good Place. There have been so many twists and turns, so I am very curious to see where it goes from here.

I watched a horror movie last night called The Blackcoat’s Daughter (free on Prime). It was reaaaaally good if you like very creepy stuff that will make you wonder if you might have a nightmare. Also, good characters and acting. I recommend it.

The guy who directed that is the son of Anthony Perkins and brother of musician Elvis Perkins. I haven’t seen the movie, but I remember hearing about it somewhere on the internet. I’ll have to check it out.

I’m almost done with season 2 of M*A*S*H, which has become my happy place at the moment. I’ve been waiting for the Taylor Kitsch Waco show because I love him a lot and apparently it already started? On something called Paramount Network? My sources tell me it’s the network formerly known as Spike? So I need to get caught up on that.

Walking Dead is coming back this month. I’ve been on-board from the beginning, so I guess I’m obligated to watch it to the end.

I saw the new “It” the other night finally. CREEPY. I liked it. (I liked the original very much too).

I also saw Blade Runner 2049 too finally. I think I need to watch it again to catch things. My mind was wandering a bit during the extended conversations portions.
