I’ve been watching some Olympics and feeling very old. I also watched Derry Girls, a hilarious and wonderful sitcom about Northern Irish teens in the 90s, and I’m still in the middle of Babylon Berlin on Netflix, a German show about Berlin in the 20s. It’s very, very good but intense, so I’m trying to spread it out.
Anyone watching Celebrity Big Brother? I’m pretty behind, but I have Metta World Peace in our office pool (random draw…) so I guess I’m rooting for him, but I’m pretty sure that’s not gonna end well for me.
The Bachelor continues to be a trainwreck this season. He’s really the worst and I have no idea how any of these women are pretending to be interested in him. Shout out to Jacqueline for GTFO when she did. Also, it’s clearly gonna be Lauren B, right? She’s so incredibly boring and yet he’s completely into her.
I finished Halt and Catch Fire! Excellent show. Season 4 was the best, but I’m glad the show ended where it did.
I still can’t believe how much better the show got as it went along. The story was interesting enough and the performances were always solid, but the characters in season 1 were pretty one dimensional. Look how PUNK Cameron is. Look how MYSTERIOUS Joe is. But each season, the storytelling got better and better. Season 4 made me cry twice. I never expected to become so invested in the story.
Huh. I watched the first two episodes and bailed, partly for those reasons. Maybe I should try again.
I’m halfway through season 4 of Mad Men now. Don is not doing well, you guys. Perhaps you-all found out back in ’10 that he hit a rough patch, but it’s news to me. This is a good show, but I wish it only had 4 seasons because watching it is so time-consuming. Like, I pound through 3 episodes in a row… and there are still 40 more? I have a life, you know. (Translation: I also want to watch The Wire and Breaking Bad, finally.)
I have been watching all the figure skating! Figure skating is the best! I am disturbed that this is the second Olympics in a row that Russia has brought out a 15 year old girl who is better at figure skating than pretty much everybody. How is it possible?? Also it’s rude because I want Mirai Nagasu to win. I’m very excited for the individual competition to start though. The team thing is kind of weird.
I’ve also been watching Drag Race All Stars season 3 which is fun so far! They’ve kicked off the most annoying people already, except Shangela who I assume is going to make it to the end. She can be very entertaining but she also kind of bugs the shit out of me. Coming into the season I was all about Chi Chi so now I’m very sad because she’s not doing so great. Get it together Chi Chi!
It’s interesting because until this year they weren’t allowed to skate to music with vocals so everybody’s going a little crazy with their choices. Some of it has been good but there is occasional shit like Ed Sheeran and this terrible song from Moulin Rouge (TWO different pairs skated to it!). I may just be a purist but I tend to prefer when they skate to solo piano, though I really enjoyed the Canadian lady who skated to Rhapsody in Blue.

Hello!
Welcome to Homeless Monsters, a blog full of pop culture, ghosts, and other fun stuff. To learn more about who we are and what we're doing here (hint: being goofs), check out the "About" tab at the top of the page.

Is Derry Girls on Netflix? That sounds good.
No (not yet, anyway). It is, however, not hard to find online, but you didn’t hear that from me.
(Let me know if you want a link.)
Glad to hear Derry Girls translates. Three of my BFFs grew up there in the 90s and say it’s terrifyingly accurate.

I am usually a Big Brother watcher but I can’t support this bullshit Omarosa rehabilitation tour. Are you going to watch The Bachelor Winter Games???
Yes! Of course I am!
And bonus is that mr. truck is out of town tonight (boo!) but that means I can watch tonight instead of sometime this week!!!

My project is scheduled to launch in 12 minutes. Soon freedom will be mine! I think it’s done, I don’t know what we’re waiting for right now.
In other news, I was so excited to see one of the Bill and Ted screenwriters post these original script drafts: https://twitter.com/ed_solomon/status/963501498159255554
TV-wise, I’ve gotten into the habit of watching M*A*S*H every night, I have to watch an episode before bed now. It’s so good.
It is finished.

Zagitova is crazy-good, isn’t she!?!
Maybe it’s always been this way (I’m not a regular figure skating viewer), but I feel like a lot of the music choices have been on point this year.
