I tried to watch another episode of Expanse (hi hotspur) but I was so bored! And it’s not like there isn’t any action. There are long conversations that I think are interesting and somewhat original. Maybe I just don’t understand the plot. Two episodes in and I’m not sure what’s going on, except the belters hate the Mars people and Earth is involved somehow and everyone is trying not to start a war but they’re clearly going to start a war. And there are aliens.

Yes. Hi. “Season 1 has a slow burn that really pays off in the final episodes” would be a verrry sympathetic way to put it. “Season 1 has forgettable characters and no clear plot until about episode 7, and then in the end it gets coherent too!” is more like it. It does kick in, but it’s hard to be disappointed for the first six hours.

Season 2 shoots right along, though. There are stakes in 2. What is even at stake in 1? There might be a war? What? If you can tell me the names of any characters or what they want, you are ahead of where I was during the first 5 hours.

There’s some guy named Hoss I think? Which I saw looking at gifs?

Also, I can’t believe they had a launch scene with the pilot saying, “Fasten your seatbelts, folks, put your tray table up in the locked position,” etc. etc. That is so unbelieveably overdone already! I’m trying hard to stop being such an eye-roller, but this makes it hard.

I haven’t given up though. I would recap my watching of it, except I don’t care about anybody yet.

Fair! That “tray tables” line bugged me too. It was such
a Dracula 3000 moment, like “Really? 200 years from now, airlines will still be using the exact same spiel?”

I powered through because I love space. Good luck.

I started watching Lost in Space (the remake) on Netflix and it’s really good! I also watched the pilot of Cheers because I’m going to Boston in a month and damn, that was a great pilot. Funny jokes, good introduction to the characters. Totally holds up.

I’ve been watching the new season of Atlanta (very good), Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television (very good), and The Handmaid’s Tale (excellent).

I’ve also been trying to catch up on iZombie. There has been a lot of great stuff this season, but (and I really hate to say this) also some elements of plot and performance that I thought weren’t so great. I read that next season will be the last, and I have confidence that it will be good, but it’s probably best to go out on a high note. Plus, at least they have advance notice on ending the show, so they can create a satisfying series finale.

      Ryan Hansen is so funny!

He is! And I would have completely forgotten that this show existed if it weren’t for you, so thank you!

I love the ongoing joke that YouTube Red is porn. And all the references to Veronica Mars and Party Down, etc.

        Have you seen this?

I started watching The Americans, finally. But for some reason, Amazon Prime won’t let me stop watching mid-episode and then resume at a later date. So I can’t split up an episode across two dinners. That might put a stop to my viewing of The Americans, which it turns out is very good. Why, Amazon? All the other things on you are stop-and-resumable!
