We’re getting free ice cream at work and it’s all I can think about.

My car overheated and is in the shop to the tune of $1,800. Why must life hand us unforeseen expenses? The foreseen ones are expensive enough.

I will say, though, while the repairs are underway, I enjoy Lyfting to and from work. I pretend I’m a rich dude getting chauffeured around, rather than a measurably-poorer-than-yesterday dude.

I would like to hear more about the ice cream. What flavors were available? Were toppings provided?

Today I taught my nephews how to use a microscope and I’m pretty damn proud of myself for remembering how to use one. The steps are literally turn it on, put a slide on it, and turn the focus knobs. But still!

Tomorrow the whole family is doing something that I don’t want to do. And in fact I will not be doing it. The trick will be trying to strike the right tone in my refusal and not getting upset. Hopefully they’ll just let me sit in the shade and read a book while they do their thing.

Yesterday was take your kids to work day and it was fun but exhausting. Props to my coworkers who didn’t bring in kids who were tolerant of their noise and messiness. When asked about it, my youngest said “It was fun at first but then it got boring in the afternoon.” Guess what, kid? You just described EVERY job in America. Even rock stars write songs about the grind (and I’m no rock star).

We topped it off with a trip to the LEGO store on the way home.

    Is it still Wednesday?
    Please say no.
Yesterday was good and today has been good. My job is so weird right now, but the good news is that the week is almost over!
