How Was Your Weekend?

Mine was very productive! I went in to the office for some overtime on Saturday, which obviously wasn’t fun, but will make this week a lot stressful. On Saturday, i finally gave my filthy apartment a much-needed deep clean.

On Friday night, our oldest said he wanted to give riding a bike a try again (we tried no training wheels last summer and it… didn’t take. But Saturday morning he hoped on and within minutes he was officially a bike rider. And his younger brother then felt compelled to upgrade as well and moved up from his (admittedly sweet as hell) Batman Big Wheel to a bike with training wheels. So two milestones reached in a single weekend.

I was a bit of a layabout this weekend. Actually I was a lot of a layabout. Things have been so crazy for so long that I took advantage of my first slow moments to just do nothing. I watched TV, including some tennis. I got my laundry done and picked up everything on my living room floor, so that was nice. I also did some work while watching TV. But mostly I did nothing.

Friday I went out for a simple cheeseburger and ended up having an interesting 3-hour conversation with a stranger who’d once been homeless for two years (among other travails that she plans to relate in a book). Saturday I drove to see the San Diego crew and enjoyed a very successful day of nerd games and fancy beer. Sunday I was painfully lazy in the morning, then around 2:30 forced myself to go to the Cafe Des Laptops to get writing done. When I got home it was late, but I was forced to watch All The Money In The World because my 30-day streaming rental was in its last hours.

That movie is not bad. I like true stories set in the 70s, and Michelle Williams from Dawson’s Creek and Dick is maybe a great actor.

Finally, here is your Orville Update of the Day: I watched episode 5 and noticed Seth McFarlane is not a good enough actor to deliver on the subtler beats the writing is now trying to give him. Huh! The big question, though, about E5, that I could not answer, is this: How did they get Charlize Theron to guest-star?

“3-hour conversation with a stranger” my actual nightmare scenario

    • Weren’t Seth and Charlize in a movie together? And I think they even dated for a short time…? Why my brain has held on to this bit of knowledge about two people I have zero interest in, I do not know, but I’m guessing they must have stayed friends.

      • hotspur says:

Ohhh, you’re right. They made a western I didn’t see. I remember seeing posters of Seth in a cowboy hat and not buying it. As a wise person on Twitter said recently, “Some actors simply can’t be in movies set in the olden days. Jessica Biel has a face that knows about texting.”

Oh FFS I didn’t realize McFarlane was in it. That’s a huge strike against it for me, like ten huge strikes. No wonder there are so many fart/dick-type jokes. I don’t think he can spell the word ‘subtle’ let alone emote it.

We had our fundraiser golf outing at work on Friday. It was fine.

Saturday, I went to a 4 year old’s birthday party, and it was adorable. A very cute child with pigtails in her hair put a shark’s head puppet over a baby doll’s head, accidentally creating a very horrifying toy.

Sunday, I did some stuff around the house and went grocery shopping. I feel like I was busy all day, but I don’t feel like I got enough done. That is frustrating.

I also watched the new episode of Insecure. So far, season 3 is great.

I had a really nice weekend! Mr Truck took the kids to his parents house overnight on Saturday and I had 27 glorious hours to myself! I had ice cream for lunch! I sat on the couch and watched The Bold Type! I went drinking with my friend! I slept past 6:30! It was glorious. But also I missed my family. So it goes.

    • taoreader says:

Sleeping, ice cream, TV couch time, drinking, that’s what I call a weekend. 🙂

    • Tracey says:

I love the Bold Type! It consistently makes me cry happy tears! I wish I were young and ambitious with loyal friends and a bad ass mentor.

Agree 1000%! The show is so idealistic it makes me miss my 20s which is saying a lot because they were the worst.
