How Was Your Weekend?

I was extremely lazy and it was too hot.

I ended up working a bit of overtime again, and my TV remote seems to be on the fritz — a real problem. Plus I spent 4 hours waiting for a plumber, who fixed my sink but also broke a different part of it, which I now have to live with. Plumbers are an eccentric lot.

Sunday I met friends for brunch followed by ice cream, which was nice. Their oldest is at the age (13) where her resting facial expression is “I wish I were not at brunch,” but she’s still a pretty cool kid. And in total fairness, I don’t remember loving brunch with my parents’ friends at that (or any) age. I also did some writing in an unfamiliar coffee shop. And that’s it, that was my weekend.

Saturday I played tennis with a friend who recently moved back to town and we had a great time. Yesterday I made the trek out to the suburbs to meet my friends’ newborn and since it’s so far I stayed all day. But let’s be honest, babies are pretty boring, even when they’re beautiful, so I paid more attention to the two-year-old so he wouldn’t feel displaced. Toddlers are exhausting! My friends said that anytime they tell him Aunt Tracey is coming over he sings “pizza pizza pizza!,” a catchy song I made up one time, so I feel very on brand.

I am on a cruise, which is the chillest cruise ever. I still can’t taste anything but I’m drinking daiquiris anyway. I’m taking pictures for a post too. I’ve been here a couple times before but I forgot how beautiful it is, although I’ve only looked at it from the ship so far. I went to the pool today because I knew no one would be there, which was true, and it was the best.

I’ve also done some work on my book which is shocking, and read a memoir by a woman who was married to a psychopath.

Yeah, babies are NOT fun. Totally overrated. All they do is lay there which is kind of nice when it’s your own because they’re soft and warm and smell nice, but as far as personality goes, 2-year-olds are much better.

This weekend we left the kids with the in-laws and hung out without kids! It was great! We watched some movies and slept in and ate good food and drank some drinks and it was a lot of fun. Have you all seen the new Mission Impossible movie? It’s very fun. We also drank Arbor Mist. Remember Arbor Mist? Yeah, it’s not good.
