So I thought I’d read the room about doing a Monster Book Club. Something like we read a book once a month and talk about it here!
To begin, I’m thinking we read Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. It sounds pretty cool, and since we all like ghosty things, it might be fun. I’m up for suggestions though. I’ll read anything as long as the dog doesn’t die.
Synopsis of The Graveyard Book:
Bod is an unusual boy who inhabits an unusual place—he’s the only living resident of a graveyard. Raised from infancy by the ghosts, werewolves, and other cemetery denizens, Bod has learned the antiquated customs of his guardians’ time as well as their ghostly teachings—such as the ability to Fade so mere mortals cannot see him.
Can a boy raised by ghosts face the wonders and terrors of the worlds of both the living and the dead?
Please tell me your thoughts!

I know from personal history I will likely be a total failure at participating in a book club, so it’d be reckless to post a “Definitely! I’m in!” comment here. The best I can do is the less helpful (but still encouraging?) “If you guys do this, I will enjoy your posts!” DM me for my personal history (just kidding) — it’s mainly because I’m a verrry slow reader, so you’ll all be discussing the funeral while I’m like “You guys, I hope Daisy marries Nick.”
“You guys, I hope Daisy marries Nick.”
That made me LOL
I love the idea of a book club! I will say though that if I don’t like a book, I stop reading it. I have no drive to finish something just because I started it. But I just downloaded this from the library so I’ll give it a shot! There are three different versions of e-books of this title, so I’m pretty confused.
If you stop reading it, we can discuss why you stopped reading it!
I love this idea!
I’m also a very slow reader, so I might not be the best person to join, but I’ll certainly give it a go!
What date should we aim for to finish the first book? July? LOL! Just kidding of course, but I will need a deadline to at least try and stick to it 🙂
Let’s say Tuesday March 19? A bit more than a month away. I’ll pst some kind of review that day and we ca go from there.
I’ll try too! I’ve never read Neil Gaiman but have been meaning to!
I’ve never read him either. This seems like a good excuse to see what he’s all about.
Downloaded and ready for the long weekend. I see there’s a Newbery award on the cover…they seem to know what they’re doing, so I expect a good book!
This sounds like a fun book. I’m in!
Yay!
