Book Club is ON. And What Are You Watching?

I’m back, people, and book club is happening for all us book nerds out there. We’re reading (or have already read) Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. Here’s a synopsis:

Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy.

He would be completely normal if he didn’t live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead.

There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy — an ancient Indigo Man beneath the hill, a gateway to a desert leading to an abandoned city of ghouls, the strange and terrible menace of the Sleer.

But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack — who has already killed Bod’s family…

Oooh, what’s a Sleer? I don’t know but I want to!

We’ll be discussing this eerie tale next Tuesday, May 21, though you can always comment on the thread afterwards.

On other not-really-news, because who wants to read the real news anyway, what’s everybody watching? I finished Season 2 of The Imposters which I enjoyed. Everything coming up on Netflix for me right now is sci-fi or paranormal or grizzled detectives with Family Issues. I hate Family Issues, man. I need something fun. Has anyone seen Wine Country yet?

I’m reading Space Opera, a Hugo award nominated book that involves something dear to our hearts here at the gum, Eurovision! I just started it, and it’s pretty funny so far. Good Sci Fi. As for TV, I’m loving Fosse/Verdon on FX which is produced by Lin Manuel Miranda. Good good good.

iZombie is back for its final season. I love that show, but I’m also ok with it ending.

My new background noise show is Great British Baking Show. It is calming to listen to people talking about cake and cinnamon. And it doesn’t even make me that hungry because a lot of their flavor combinations sound weird to me.

My other background noise show is Law and Order Special Victims Unit. Hulu has TWENTY seasons of that show up, and I am in the FINAL season. It is kind of a terrible show, but is easy to follow along without giving it my full attention, so it works for me.

I completely forgot about book club, but I will try to participate next time!

It’s John Wick 3 Day!!!! I’m so jet lagged but excited. I’m leaving early to meet up with my friends who share my love for John Wick. I’m even wearing my John Wick lapel pin.

Welcome back! Looking forward to book club. I’m watching Schitt’s Creek on netflix right now…it’s funny but mostly just a reliable show to watch an episode of every night.

A reliable show would be perfect for me right now.

Excited to talk about The Graveyard Book! It’s my first Neil Gaiman experience.
