How was your weekend/what are you doing this weekend?

God bless a holiday that falls on a Thursday, thereby getting us Friday off as well! I will be spending the upcoming long weekend with my family — which is great during the day, but not great at night when I have to share a room with my parents. I do not like having my bedtime forced upon me!

What are your plans? What did you do this past weekend? I actually did quite a bit! On Friday I saw Aladdin, which was pretty good actually. On Saturday I went to the museum founded by the Guess guys (the Marciano brothers), grabbed honeycomb ice cream in Koreatown, then visited the bar from The New Girl. They shot there for the first season then made a replica set going forward. It feels very much like walking into The Griffin! On Sunday I got Thai food and donuts with the guy I’m dating then we watched Star Trek.

What Star Trek did you watch? This is important. Last week while trying to fall asleep I watched 1.5 old Kirk episodes. Pretty shocking coincidence if you watched the same ST. (Me: Doomsday Machine x1 and Catspaw x0.5. I did this because I had just read a thing by the writer of DM that the actor played Commodore Decker totally different than it was written — it was written as Ahab, and played as distraught — and I wanted to watch with that in mind; and then Catspaw auto-played, an episode I haven’t seen since I was 13 probably, and remember being creeped out by. It was a Halloween episode! I recently read that somewhere. You guys Star Trek had a Halloween 1967 episode.)

My weekend was good. I ate a lot of sausage and saw Midsummer Night’s Dream in Topanga Canyon (super fun). For the 4th I’m going to Pittsburgh. A friend is getting married there.

Fourth of July wedding! What a weekend to make people travel!

We’re watching Discovery because he’s never seen it and I bring a CBS All Access subscription to the relationship. Last week he took me to a Star Trek Discovery exhibit at the Paley Center!

Ah! I am waiting for Discovery season 2 to come up on Prime. Season 1 was meh for the first two-thirds and then BANG, it got so good. I hesitate to spoilerize why here, so let’s just say I did not see the switcheroo coming.

This weekend was mildly relaxing and mildly productive.

I’ve been watching Love Island, and oh boy, it is so addictive! To be honest, if it was an American show, I would probably not watch it, but I love the accents, and it is easy to watch when you just want to watch something silly.

Our office is open on Friday, so no long weekend for me. I don’t have any plans for the 4th, but I am looking forward to having Thursday off of work 🙂

If you have Hulu, the first 3 seasons of Veronica Mars are now on there. If you have never seen that show, please give it a go. It’s excellent! The new season starts at the end of July.

I just watched USA-England and am pleased to report that, despite England’s many attempts to cheat using violence and offsides, the USA triumphed. Shout-out to my fellow New Jerseyan Carli Lloyd, who alone drew four fouls from the grim English side in the final 72 seconds of play.

    • gnidrah says:

WELL that’s a BOLD set of letters formed into words in a row right there, American pal!

“Grim”? “Cheat”? “Violence”? You seen football before mate? 😉 You wanna have another look.

I think you’re joking, but you might not be, so just in case, I would say that you know that was quite a fair match? Like you were not 13-nil ahead in this one, in fact to be honest it really ought to have been two-all, so I think you wanna show your English cousins a little more R.E.S.P.E.C.T!

      • hotspur says:

I was deliberately trying to provoke you, and I am pleased with the results.

It WAS a good match. (It should not have been 2-2.) Our team is excellent, but they are not so far above all others as the brochure says. It could have gone to England (or France prior). So three cheers for England, land of Neal’s Yard cheese and Shakespeare and third place according to the FIFA website!

        Alas no Greece in this.

        • gnidrah says:

Yeah I suspect funding for Greece’s women’s team struggled during the financial crisis, as so many sports did.

All is fair in love and football!
