Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!

Now he knows what a TV dinner feels like.

Well, here we are at the end of the year. Congratulations to everyone for enduring the last 10 months of 2020! Seriously, we’ve been through a lot, and every day is a victory. This is the first year I’ll be away from my family for Christmas, and that makes me cry even as I recognize that it’s a small struggle in comparison to the sacrifices so many people have made this year. But I think we can acknowledge that and still be allowed to feel sad and pissed off and whatever else we feel.

How are you doing right now? Does anyone have anything to celebrate or something we can all commiserate together?

I haven’t felt too into the holiday spirit and I’ll be working every day except Christmas and New Year’s days, but I’m going to start watching some holiday movies to get into the spirit. I have to watch Die Hard and A Christmas Story, and I’m considering the Khaleesi movie Last Christmas.

What movies do you watch this time of year? Bonus points for a Top 5 or 10 list!

Not a movie, but we always watch Pee Wee’s Christmas Special. Fruitcake!

This might not be a popular opinion, but Bad Santa is my favorite Christmas movie.

I heard on a podcast sometime this year two actors talking about what a great performance that was by Billy Bob Thornton. Might have been Justin Long’s podcast?

It’ll be my first Christmas on my own as well. I agree. It’s absolutely possible to be sad for that, all while acknowledging the struggles of others. (in fact my therapist would say that it’s very important to do so!)

A day at a time, is how I am taking it – while trying to have a plan for each day, even if it is simply to go for a walk, just so that it doesn’t slip into desperation. I may even now have time for another movie review…!

I am very much looking forward to the new TV adaptation of Black Narcissus. If you haven’t seen the film, treat yourself. It’s MADNESS. If the series is half as good, I’ll be pleased. I’m also going to download a few of the films I had hoped to see at the cinema this year.

Not sure I will watch any of the “traditional” ones, as might make me feel sad, so it’s time for new traditions I think!

    Happy Christmas, monsters!

Oh no! You challenged me to review Black Narcissus and I never did!

Apparently Netflix dropped several Christmas/holiday movies! I’m trying to finish the last season of Hell on Wheels before it gets pulled from Netflix on 12/30 but then I gotta get into those wonderfully cheesy Netflix romcoms.

      Merry Christmas!
